Their Story
Roosters Brewing was founded on April 4, 1995, by Pete and Kym Buttschardt on Ogden's Historic 25th Street, which was then a rough area known as "Two Bit Street" with a reputation for crime and dilapidated buildings. The couple renovated a 119-year-old building that had previously served as a Chinese laundry and a "house of ill repute" during 25th Street's colorful past. Before opening Roosters, the Buttschardts owned and operated Union Grill at Union Station (opened in 1991), where Pete cooked and Kym handled finances. Their gamble on the struggling neighborhood paid off - Roosters became a cornerstone of Ogden's revitalization, helping transform 25th Street from a rundown area into the thriving cultural and social heart of downtown Ogden. The brewery hired Steve Kirkland from Milwaukee as their first Head Brewmaster, who has remained with the company for 30 years and brings an old-school brewing philosophy focused on traditional craft beer and hop-and-malt-forward brews. In 2018, Roosters opened a B Street production brewery and taproom to increase production and enter the retail beer market more aggressively. In 2023, Kim Bowsher became CEO of Roosters Hospitality Group, which oversees the Roosters, Union Grill, and The Coop brands with 300 employees across multiple locations. 2025 marks their 30th anniversary, celebrating their role as Utah's largest locally-owned brewery and their transformation from a risky venture into a beloved community institution.

Roosters has always delivered on great food. Try some elevated plates at very reasonable prices. A great place to eat, even if you don't drink.

Would avoid the fish & chips - mushy and flavorless. Consistently not good, many better options in town.

Roosters Brewing Co. in Ogden, Utah is one of those rare gems that manages to combine incredible food, warm hospitality, and an atmosphere that feels like the heartbeat of the city. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this place is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with that perfect blend of rustic charm and lively energy — the kind of setting that makes you want to stay for hours. Let’s start with the food, because that’s where Roosters truly shines. I ordered the Gorgonzola Burger, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best burgers I’ve ever had — and I’ve eaten a lot of burgers. The patty was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, and that tangy, creamy Gorgonzola cheese took it to another level. Every bite had this perfect balance of richness and savory depth that kept me going back for more. The toasted bun held everything together without falling apart, and the caramelized onions added just the right amount of sweetness. It’s a flavor experience that hits every note perfectly. Then came the salmon, and honestly, it rivaled anything you’d find at a high-end seafood restaurant. Perfectly cooked — tender and flaky on the inside with that lightly crisped exterior that locks in all the flavor. The seasoning was balanced beautifully, and whatever glaze or sauce the chef used complemented the natural flavor of the fish without overpowering it. You could tell it was made with real care, not just tossed on a grill and rushed out. It tasted fresh, delicate, and perfectly executed. And if you go, do not skip the cheese curds. They’re absolutely phenomenal — crispy golden perfection on the outside, with gooey, melty cheese on the inside that stretches just the right amount. They’re addictive, comforting, and honestly could be a meal on their own. Dip them in whatever sauce they bring (trust me, you’ll want to) and prepare to be hooked. Beyond the food, the service and atmosphere are what make Roosters a 5-star experience through and through. The staff were attentive, personable, and genuinely seemed to love working there — which says a lot about the culture they’ve built. My server checked in just the right amount, made great recommendations, and made me feel completely at home. You can tell the team here takes pride in what they do, from the kitchen to the bar to the front of house. The locally brewed beers also deserve a shoutout — crisp, full of flavor, and perfectly paired with the food. Whether you’re into IPAs, stouts, or lighter ales, they’ve got something for everyone, and the bartenders are always happy to help you find your perfect pour. Roosters Brewing Co. is the kind of place that reminds you why dining out is an experience, not just a meal. Everything — the food, the people, the ambiance — comes together in perfect harmony. Whether you’re here for date night, a casual lunch, or just to unwind after a long day, you’re in for something special. If you haven’t been yet, make plans to go. Order the Gorgonzola Burger, the salmon, and the cheese curds — and thank me later. Roosters isn’t just a brewery; it’s an Ogden institution that knows exactly how to make people happy.
